The Knight and the Moth – Book Review

The Knight and the Moth (The Stonewater Kingdom, #1)The Knight and the Moth by Rachel Gillig
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What a ride this book was. I don’t think I can even put it into words.
Beautifully written with humor perfectly placed to balance the darkness of the themes, amazing characters and the whole concept of the magical water and its effects on humans was so original it just kept me fascinated to the last word.
And the surprises toward the end of the story… they blew me away (some great, some heartbreaking) and I am so brokenhearted that I will have to wait until September to read the conclusion of this duology.
Rachel Gillig has become one of my favorite authors. Her stories are just as lyrical as they are dramatic and atmospheric. Her characters are well-developed with such distinct voices and characteristics, you can’t help either falling in love with them (Rory, oh Rory) or hate them (yes, I’m talking to you, Abbess). My favorite character was the gargoyle. He brought an element of childlike wonder, humor, and loyalty to the whole plot that enriched the story tenfold.
The slow-burn romance is extremely well done and their love for each other comes through loud and clear even when they bickered.
I could go on, but I won’t. Highly, highly recommend it.
